About Chatvia

Chatvia is a free, self-hosted platform for building AI chat agents that answer from a team's own documents, websites and Q&A. It is built for companies and individuals that want to run their own agents instead of paying a recurring subscription to services such as Intercom, Chatbase or ChatGPT.

A user uploads documents, imports a website or writes Q&A pairs, and Chatvia reads and indexes them with a hybrid search that combines vector search and BM25 keyword search inside PostgreSQL, with no extra database to run. A reranker then puts the best passages first before an agent answers from them.

Each agent can call custom HTTP endpoints or any MCP server as tools, with risky calls held for approval and every call logged. Guardrails check for prompt injection, personal data and off-topic replies, evaluations score answers with an LLM judge, and a live chat view lets a person take over a conversation. Agents can use any AI model, including open-weight models, and each agent may use a different one.

Chatvia runs as a website widget, a hosted chat page, a command bar, or through Slack, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Telegram or a REST API. It is free on a user's own server, with no limits on agents or replies; a license key adds more workspaces, the API, voice and Live Chat, and removes the "Powered by Chatvia" credit.
