About ToText

ToText is a browser-based transcription service that turns uploaded audio and video recordings into editable, searchable text. It accepts MP3, MP4, M4A, MOV, WAV, WebM, OGG and other common formats, and is aimed at people who already have a file to process, such as researchers, podcasters, students, teams recording meetings and creators preparing captions.

A user uploads a file, chooses its language or leaves automatic detection on, and can enable speaker recognition and add custom vocabulary for names or specialist terms. The job runs in the background and shows up in a dashboard. The transcript opens in an editor beside the recording, where each segment links to its timestamp for playback, search, correction and speaker renaming.

Once a transcript is saved, ToText can produce a summary, meeting notes, automatic chapters, action items, answers to questions about the content, and an English translation. Exports cover TXT, DOCX and PDF documents, SRT, VTT and ASS subtitle files, and CSV, JSON and XLSX data, all reflecting saved edits. Noise reduction is available, and captions come out as separate files rather than burned into the video.

Free accounts can process up to three files a day, with the first 20 minutes of each file transcribed. A one-time 300-minute pack costs $9.90 but leaves out noise reduction and the AI summary tools. Monthly Unlimited at $19.90 and Annual Unlimited at $149 add unlimited transcription, uploads of up to 20 hours per file and the full AI workspace. Only uploaded files are handled, not live recording.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install software?
No. Uploading, transcription, editing and export all run in a modern browser.
How accurate are the transcripts?
Accuracy depends on recording quality, accents, noise, vocabulary and overlapping voices; timestamps and playback make it easier to check and fix the text.
Does speaker recognition work on every recording?
Results depend on language, microphone placement, overlap and clarity, so speaker labels stay editable.
Which export formats are available?
TXT, DOCX, PDF, SRT, VTT, ASS, CSV, JSON and XLSX, including any saved edits.
Can I try ToText for free?
Yes. Free accounts can process up to 3 files a day, with the first 20 minutes of each file included and no credit card needed.
