About SummarizePaper

SummarizePaper reads scientific papers for you, so that researchers, students, journalists and curious readers can understand them, follow their field and check information at its source. It started in 2023 as an arXiv summarizer and now covers every step of research, from reading a paper to presenting it: summaries, chat with papers, collections, daily digest, and alerts. The service offers tools to write and present, with features like literature reviews, bibliography checks, and export options for Zotero, Notion and Obsidian.

Papers come from arXiv, bioRxiv, medRxiv, HAL and Europe PMC, and from journals through their DOI, with metadata from OpenAlex, Crossref and Semantic Scholar. The AI reads the full text only when the license allows it, otherwise it uses the abstract; each page states which was used. Summaries can be read in 16 languages and the platform emphasizes openness and verifiability of AI outputs.

SummarizePaper makes it possible to follow a field with daily digests, watch lists, and alerts, and it provides collections to group papers and compare them. It also offers reading formats, a chat assistant that cites exact source passages, and tools to prepare presentations, journal clubs, and conference materials for researchers and students.

The service is free with basic features and daily limits, while Premium and Premium+ unlock more reading and analysis capabilities. It is created by an astronomer and published by a French company, with open-source code available under MIT license.

Frequently asked questions

What is this website about?
SummarizePaper helps you read, follow and use research with AI. For any paper from arXiv, a journal or a preprint server, you get a detailed summary, the key points, a lay summary and a blog-style article, which you can have rewritten in 16 languages and for four reading levels.
What papers can I summarize?
Every arXiv paper, and papers from many other sources: Journal articles: any paper with a DOI; bioRxiv and medRxiv preprints; HAL, ChemRxiv, the OSF preprint servers and the articles of PubMed and Europe PMC.
How do I get a summary?
Search for a paper with the search bar on the home page, or paste its arXiv ID, its DOI or its link. If the paper has already been summarized, the summary shows up immediately. If it is the first time, our AI has to read and summarize it, which can take a few minutes.
What happens with my conversations or collections?
Your recent conversations are kept; you can rename, delete, export as BibTeX, and share as a public page of what it was when shared.
