Rock Identifier is an iPhone app that uses AI to identify stones, crystals, gems and minerals from a photo. A user points the camera at a rock, takes a picture and receives a report in seconds. Rock Identifier is meant for hikers, collectors, students, crystal enthusiasts, families and anyone curious about a rock found on a walk, turning the phone into a pocket geologist.
The AI model compares the photo against thousands of rocks, minerals, crystals and gemstones to produce an identification with a confidence score. Each report gives the name and type, such as igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic, along with Mohs hardness, mineral composition, color, texture, special properties, rarity, geological age, estimated value and where the stone is commonly found. Believed healing and metaphysical properties are also listed.
Every identified rock is saved to a personal history, where users can revisit and organize their finds as a collection. A recent update fixed a bug that could make an identification fail instead of showing a result. Premium access unlocks unlimited identifications and full detailed reports, either through a subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase, and the app is available in English and 31 more languages.
Rock Identifier offers a free 3-day trial with unlimited scans that can be cancelled before it ends. Premium costs $4.99 a week, $24.99 a year or $74.99 for lifetime access, and a $9.99 in-app purchase supports the developer. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. The app is built for iPhone, requires iOS 17.0 or later and is not verified for macOS.
