Oyomi is a Japanese grammar analyser and learning app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. A learner pastes or imports Japanese text, and Oyomi breaks each sentence into words, marks parts of speech and shows the pronunciation of Chinese characters, so that reading goes faster. It is built for people studying Japanese who want to read native material such as web pages, e-books and novels with grammatical support. Oyomi is sold by Qingdao Miaojiandao Technology Co., Ltd.
The analysis is done with machine learning. Oyomi segments sentences and paragraphs automatically, then generates their semantic structure, working out how short clauses modify one another to explain the grammatical features and meaning of a passage. Word parsing uses a built-in dictionary to identify conjugations. An online translation function and text-to-speech support reading, a web content analyser parses pages for analysis, and EPUB e-books can be imported.
For study, Oyomi includes a vocabulary notebook where paragraphs and new words are bookmarked for later review, an interactive introductory course to Japanese with common grammar references, and recommended content such as classic novels and music, updated occasionally. A recent update added AI explanations to the Material page. The developer says more features and content are under development, and support is handled through in-app feedback or email.
Oyomi is free to download with in-app purchases: Oyomi Pro Monthly at $0.99, Oyomi Pro Yearly at $4.99, Oyomi Premium Monthly at $5.99, Oyomi Premium Yearly at $49.99 and Oyomi Lifetime at $9.99. It requires iOS 15.0 or iPadOS 15.0 or later, macOS 12.0 or later on Mac, and visionOS 1.0 on Apple Vision. The interface is available in English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, and the app is rated 16+.
