About OpenBot

OpenBot is a desktop application that hosts multiple AI agents on a single machine. It supports running agents from Codex, Claude Code, Gemini, Grok, OpenCode, and other models, with users’ existing plans or local options. Agents operate within their own workspace, with individualized names, instructions, and contexts, enabling collaboration, handoffs, and file sharing among team members.

OpenBot stores workspaces, conversations, files, and browser data on the computer running the app, rather than on external servers. The application includes a built-in browser, and agents can queue tasks and manage work without immediate human intervention.

The tool emphasizes that an agent can switch to a backup model when limits are reached and that the agent’s workspace and chat history remain intact during provider changes. It also supports a built-in browser for agents to read and interact with web pages.

OpenBot is available for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android. It aims to serve individuals and teams who want AI agents to operate locally, with configurable providers and workflows, and a focus on local data control.

Frequently asked questions

Is OpenBot free?
Yes. OpenBot costs $0, with no locked features. You pay only your AI provider, through the plan or API key you already have.
Is OpenBot's source code open?
Yes. All of the source code is open on GitHub, so you can check what OpenBot does. You can change and run it for free for noncommercial use, such as personal projects, study or research. Commercial use needs a separate license. The license is PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0.
Which AI models can OpenBot use?
Codex, Claude Code, Gemini, Grok, OpenCode, Cursor, Cline, Muse Code and Pi, and Inception's Mercury models. You can also run any agent that speaks the Agent Client Protocol, such as Goose or Qwen Code, connect any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, and use local models in Ollama or LM Studio.
What happens when my plan reaches its limit?
An agent can move to a backup model on another provider when its plan reaches its limit, or when its provider is overloaded or down. It keeps its chat and workspace, and a note in the chat shows the switch.
How do I start?
Download OpenBot and connect a provider. Then describe the agent you want in one prompt, check its instructions and save it. You can send it work at once: messages wait in a queue until it is free.
