ocrX is an iPhone and iPad app that scans images and extracts the words in them using an OCR (optical character recognition) engine. It reads printed and handwritten text in more than 100 languages, and the extracted text can be edited, copied, shared or exported. The app is sold under the title Image to Text: Scan to Convert, with the subtitle Handwriting to Text Converter, by Aculix Technologies LLP.
A scan starts with the New button. The user selects an image from the photo library, crops it if needed and chooses the language used in the image. ocrX then scans the image and extracts its text automatically. The result can be corrected in the app before it is shared to another app, copied to the clipboard or saved as a file for later use.
ocrX handles handwritten text as well as printed text, and its recognition covers more than 100 languages. The app keeps a history of scanned images so that earlier results can be reopened later. Extracted text can be exported as a plain text file or as a PDF file, and it can be sent directly to another app on the device through the share option.
ocrX is free to download and contains advertising. In-app purchases include ocrX Monthly at $1.99, ocrX Annual at $19.99 and a lifetime ocrX Premium purchase at $69.99. The app requires iOS 17.6 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 17.6 or later on iPad, and its interface is in English. Usage data may be used to track users across other companies' apps and websites.
