GenText is an AI writing tool for academics that drafts paper sections, summarizes sources, rephrases text and finds peer-reviewed citations from a database of over 200 million academic papers. It is built for students and researchers at universities worldwide, and runs in a browser or as a Microsoft Word add-in.
A user signs in with a school or Microsoft account and starts writing in the browser editor at app.gentext.ai, or installs the GenText add-in from Microsoft AppSource to work inside Word. GenText analyzes the user's text and the 200 million-paper database with AI, then returns drafted sections, summaries, rephrased sentences and formatted citations that support the claims made.
GenText offers five core tools: Generate Draft, Generate Summary, Rephrase Text, Cite Research and Research-Based Responses, plus 17 free standalone tools covering thesis evaluation, outline generation, citation conversion and bibliography cleaning. It formats citations in APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, IEEE, Vancouver and AMA styles, autosaves drafts to the cloud, and supports 11 languages.
GenText offers a free plan with 500 words a day, up to 5,000 a month, a Premium plan at $19 a month or $190 a year with 100,000 words, and a Business plan at $39 a month or $390 a year with unlimited words and priority support. It runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, ChromeOS and iPad in the browser, and as a Word add-in for Windows, Mac and the web.
