About Chromatic

Chromatic is a UI testing and review platform built by the Storybook team for frontend teams, including those whose code is partly written by AI agents. It runs visual, accessibility and interaction checks on every code push and lets designers, product managers and engineers sign off on UI changes inside a pull request, so a team can catch bugs before they ship.

Chromatic builds on the Storybook, Vitest, Playwright and Cypress tests a team has already written rather than requiring new ones. Every push triggers a cloud run across Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge in parallel, and a TurboSnap feature analyzes which component files changed so only the tests affected by that change are captured, cutting usage costs by up to 80%.

Visual tests catch changes in appearance, layout, fonts and colors; interaction tests simulate clicking, typing, hovering and dragging; and accessibility tests run axe on each component to flag WCAG violations with remediation tips. SteadySnap stabilizes frontend rendering to remove flaky results, and UI Review lets reviewers comment on and approve a pull request's visual changes directly beside the live components, with status synced to Git and CI.

Published components are indexed into a searchable, versioned library that a Storybook MCP server can also expose as structured context for AI coding agents. Pricing starts at a Free plan at $0/ month with 5,000 billed snapshots, rising to Starter at $179/ month, Pro at $399/ month, and a custom-priced Enterprise plan with unlimited accessibility usage and SSO.

Tests run on as many machines as required to deliver results in the least time possible, with parallelization automatic and no extra configuration or cost.
What happens if I exceed my plan's monthly snapshot limit?
Extra snapshots beyond the plan's allotment are billed at an additional per-snapshot rate, such as $0.008 per extra snapshot on the Starter plan.
Does Chromatic support accessibility testing?
Yes; it runs axe on each component to identify accessibility violations and provide remediation tips.
