The Gist

The Gist is a free news app for iPhone and iPad from Gist Technologies Inc. It presents news as cards, each carrying an AI-generated summary of 60 words or less so the essential facts can be read without the full article. Every card shows the name of the source, and stories are cross-referenced across multiple sources for accuracy and objectivity. It is meant for readers who want to stay informed in little time.

The feed is personalised to the reader's interests, and preferences can prioritise topics and specific countries. Readers can follow their favourite news sources, swipe right on a card to open the full article, bookmark cards for later and share them as images. Summaries remain available offline, and push notifications deliver instant alerts for important updates.

The Gist is free to download. It requires iOS 17.0 or iPadOS 17.0 or later, also runs on a Mac with an Apple M1 chip or later and on Apple Vision, and is in English. Usage data may be used to track the reader across other companies' apps and websites, contact info and usage data may be linked to identity, and diagnostics are collected without being linked.
