kuku

kuku is a local-first AI Markdown workspace for macOS that enables users to manage a knowledge base using plain Markdown files. It focuses on offline operation and keeps data on the user’s device, avoiding cloud lock-in. The tool combines Markdown editing with AI-assisted searching, linking, and editing, all within a native macOS experience.

Users work with wikilinks, backlinks, and a graph view to surface related notes and ideas. The product emphasizes staying within the user’s own files and maintaining control over their data, including offline usage and local indexing.

kuku pairs human-readable Markdown with AI features that assist in retrieving and arranging information. The system maintains context across notes and supports a continuous memory of the vault as AI interactions surface connections and follow-up prompts.

kuku is designed for individuals who want a local-first knowledge base with AI-assisted editing and retrieval, targeting macOS users seeking a private, open-source solution.
