Essayly

Essayly is an essay-scoring tool for IELTS, GRE, and TOEFL writing tasks. A user writes an essay in response to a prompt and receives a score against the official rubric for that exam, along with specific sentence-level feedback. It is aimed at test takers preparing for immigration applications, graduate school admissions, scholarships, and other uses that require one of these three writing scores.

A user picks a topic, writes an essay on one page, and submits it for scoring; there is no tutor to book or appointment to wait for. Essayly scores the writing against the exam's official rubric and quotes the user's own sentences to show exactly what is wrong and how to fix it, with suggestions for each scoring criterion. Scoring is handled by sending the essay over an encrypted connection to Anthropic's Claude model.

Each supported exam has its own topics and rubric: IELTS is scored on Task Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy; GRE feedback focuses on how an argument is built and supported; and TOEFL's Academic Discussion task is scored on the official 0–5 scale. Topic pages include the prompt's requirements, possible positions, arguments, key vocabulary, and a sample essay, and the interface is available in five languages.

New accounts receive 2 free essay evaluations, after which a pack of 30 evaluations costs $4.99 with no subscription required. Essayly covers more than 300 writing topics across categories including education, society, and technology, limited to IELTS, GRE, and TOEFL writing tasks. Submitted essays are discarded after scoring and are never used for training, and the service is available 24/7.
