About DB Pilot

DB Pilot is an AI-native database tool designed for engineers, analysts, and business users to interact with databases through a graphical interface, an SQL editor with smart autocomplete, and notebook-style blocks that mix SQL, Python, and interactive charts. It runs locally on a user’s machine, connects to multiple database types, and provides AI-assisted data exploration and code generation without sending data to servers. The tool emphasizes native data handling and local operation while offering AI features to speed up tasks.

DB Pilot features notebooks that blend SQL, Python, inputs, and interactive tables to build dashboards and iteratively explore data. It combines SQL queries, Python code, and visual blocks in a block-based interface, similar to Jupyter Notebooks, and runs locally. Users can query and transform data across databases, files, and external APIs, going back and forth between SQL and Python and accessing results in subsequent blocks.

In addition to data exploration, DB Pilot provides an AI assistant with access to the latest AI models, inline help in multiple blocks, and the ability to tailor AI behavior with custom rules. It supports creating and editing charts with AI, managing context for different databases and notebooks, and fixing errors with AI suggestions, all within a local environment.

DB Pilot offers a range of plans and platform support, including a free tier with local database access and a one-time purchase option to unlock premium features. It lists supported databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, DuckDB, CockroachDB, and notes that Linux and Windows support are coming soon, with Mac users having dedicated downloads.

Frequently asked questions

What does DB Pilot do?
DB Pilot AI can help you write SQL queries - simply give it instructions in English, then let it do its magic. It can also explain queries, debug errors with "Fix with AI", and convert between code and SQL, saving you valuable time.
Can I try the AI assistant before I buy?
Yes, you can try the AI assistant for 20 messages before you buy. You'll need to provide your own API keys for the AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google AI, etc.). See the documentation for more details.
Which operating systems are supported?
DB Pilot can be used on Mac (both M chip and Intel), with support for Linux and Windows coming soon.
Which databases are supported?
You can connect PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, MySQL, SQLite, chDB (local ClickHouse), and DuckDB databases.
How is my data used and stored?
All app data is stored locally on your computer. Connection credentials are stored locally on your computer, with passwords and other sensitive information being stored securely in your device's keychain. All database connectivity happens directly between your computer and the database server. We don't store any of your database data on our servers.
Can the AI assistant read my data?
No, the AI assistant cannot read your data. It knows which tables and columns exist in your database so that it can assist you better. But it doesn't have access to any actual data stored in your database.
What are notebooks and how do they help?
Notebooks allow you to mix and match SQL, Python, text, and interactive tables & charts to explore data and build dashboards. They're perfect for iterative data exploration, combining data from multiple sources, and creating reproducible analyses.
What's the difference between free and one-time purchase?
The free plan lets you get started with DB Pilot and try AI features with your own API keys. The one-time purchase ($79) gives you access to all premium features in app versions released within 1 year of purchase. To use AI features with the one-time purchase plan, you need to provide your own API key for the AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google AI, etc.).
