About ChordGen

ChordGen is a chord progression generator for songwriters, producers, instrumentalists and music students. A user types a plain-language description of a mood, genre or feeling, such as "sad piano chords in a minor" or "jazz ii-v-i progression in bb major", instead of picking from scale menus or preset lists, and the tool writes chords around that description.

Typing a prompt returns three different chord progressions, each shown on an interactive piano keyboard that can be heard and played. Chords can be dragged around, swapped out, or added and deleted until the progression sounds right, and each chord's notes are visible on the keyboard so a player can see exactly how it is built.

Finished progressions export as plain MIDI files that work in any DAW, with no account or sign-up required. Producers can drag a generated MIDI file straight into Ableton, FL Studio or Logic instead of drawing chords into a piano roll one note at a time, while instrumentalists and music students can use the same output to study how progressions are built across genres such as blues, neo-soul and film-score cues.

ChordGen is free to use: generating progressions, previewing them on the piano, and exporting MIDI all carry no account requirement and no listed price. It is pitched as a free alternative to other chord-generation tools, aimed at anyone who wants finished chords without paying or signing up first.
