Appnary

Shopify Apps That Work the Way You Do

About Appnary

Appnary is a small company building Shopify apps for independent merchants. Its first app, Vigil, is a security scanner for a Shopify store that is still in development and open only through a waitlist. Vigil reads a store's published theme and app embeds, names the theme file or app behind each external script, and flags strings that look like leaked keys. Two later apps, Sync and Backup, have their own public waitlists.

A Vigil scan looks at the published theme, including app embeds, app blocks and JavaScript assets, and at the live storefront for scripts or frames that are not in a theme file. External scripts and frames are listed with the theme file or app that added each one. Vigil also keeps store events past the 250 that Shopify shows in admin, and records each change to the published theme.

When a scan finds a bad script, a merchant can turn it off and undo that, or block the same host on every store under one account; Vigil does not uninstall other apps. The scan is also an MCP tool, so Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or any AI agent can ask Vigil to scan a store and receive the same findings, while the merchant still approves any change.

Vigil's first version leaves customer records and order contents unread. Merchants open Vigil from Shopify admin; the install, the scan, webhooks and the agent tool run on a separate control panel host rather than on appnary.com. Appnary describes its pricing as flat rates with no usage tiers, but publishes no prices. Sync, for moving catalog and order data between stores, and Backup are planned after Vigil ships, and the one with more signups is built first.

Frequently asked questions

What is Appnary building now?
Vigil, a security scanner for Shopify that reads the published theme and app embeds, names the file or app behind an external script, and flags leaked keys.
Can I install Vigil?
Not yet. It stays on the waitlist until Appnary finishes it and Shopify approves the listing; people are invited from the list.
What are the Sync and Backup waitlists for?
They are future apps, each with a public signup count. After Vigil ships, the one with more signups is built next; Backup stays last.
Does Vigil read customer data?
No. Customer records and order contents stay out of version 1.
Can an AI agent run the scan?
Yes. The scan is exposed as an MCP tool, so Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or any AI agent can ask Vigil to scan a store and receive the same findings.
